Personal experience
Maleeha completed her plastic surgery training in two renowned Plastic Surgery rotations in Leeds and London working in specialised microvascular reconstruction units. Following her training, Maleeha spent a year in Toronto for a microsurgical fellowship working at Toronto General Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital & Princess Margaret Cancer Centre gaining experience in Breast cancer reconstruction, head and neck cancer reconstruction and sarcoma surgery. Her time in Toronto furthered her interest in management of cancer related lymphoedema and during her time there she trained in super microsurgery procedures for lymphoedema.
Following this she completed a microsurgical fellowship at Guy’s & St. Thomas hospital that encompassed complex soft tissue reconstruction of the abdominal wall, chest wall and perineum.
Miss Mughal is part of the duo that have introduced Immediate lymphatic reconstruction as a preventative approach for lymphoedema in patients undergoing lymph node removal at guy’s Cancer Centre.
She has presented her work and experience in lymphoedema internationally at the World Symposium of Lymphoedema Surgery.
Throughout her career, Miss Mughal has been involved in clinical research and has published over 40 articles in peer reviewed journals and is an author of several book chapters including in the Oxford Textbook of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
Maleeha has a keen interest in teaching and training. She is the Royal College of Surgeons Surgical Tutor at Guy’s & St. Thomas, and is a faculty member of various surgical skills courses and the FRCS specialty exam courses.
